As you can see, it is very similar to Blackberry 10′s Time Shift Camera. The difference is that the Blackberry 10 has a hardware component and ours is completely based on software. We have implemented some proprietary image processing algorithms so our users can have the same user experience as the Blackberry 10 camera as far as performance and response time. One feature we have that is lacking in Blackberry 10′s camera is the ability to manually add faces to a photo (this is perfect for taking picture with pets). We are also very proud that we can support the native camera resolution on iPhone 5 despite the CPU and memory intensive image processing needed for this app.
We have put together a FAQ to answer some of common questions.
FAQ for ReelCam – Time Shifting Camera
What’s the difference between ReelCam Pro and Blackberry 10′s time shift camera?
Blackberry 10′s time shift camera uses a special hardware component. The ReelCam Pro is completely software based. Otherwise, they provide similar functionality. ReelCam Pro allows you to add additional faces, even if the face detection does not detect the face for whatever reason. This is perfect for taking a picture of a pet.
Does ReelCam Pro work on iPad?
ReelCam Pro is NOT an iOS universal app. If you install it on iPad, you need to run the x2 compatibility mode. We plan to release the iPad version in the future.
What’s the performance of ReelCam Pro?
The so-called “preview” of the result comes out within a second on iPhone 5. The high-resolution result will be processed in the background. On iPhone 5, it takes about 15 seconds to process the full result. On iPhone 4s or iPod Touch 5, it takes about 30 seconds to process the full result in the background.
What kind of resolution does the ReelCam Pro support?
On iPhone 5, it supports the full camera resolution of the 8MP camera. On the older devices, the app supports 60% of the native camera pixels. For example, the iPhone 4S has the 8MP camera and the app supports the 5MP. The iPhone 4 has the 5MP camera and the app supports the 3MP.
I took the pictures and the pictures are not in my iPhone’s photo gallery. What happened?
The ReelCam Pro has its own photo gallery to manage your photos. It provides a powerful way to manage group photos from a single shot. At any point, you can save the photo in the app’s photo gallery to your iPhone’s photos app.
How about the Share feature?
The ReelCam Pro supports many common social networking services – Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, email, etc. We plan to add additional services to the Share feature in the future.
I tried to share the result and it says “Processing…” What does that mean?
It means that the app is still doing the background processing for the result photo. Just wait or come back later. Normally it takes between 10 to up to 50 seconds to process a photo, depending on your device.
What kind of devices have you tested with the app?
We have tested the app on iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3 GS, iPod Touch 5 and iPod Touch 4.
